Beneficiary designation gift
You may have more retirement assets than you will use in your lifetime. Or perhaps you own a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose. Naming CJP as a beneficiary of remaining funds in a qualified retirement, investment, or bank account, a donor advised fund, or a life insurance policy is a quick and easy way to make a lasting impact.
Benefits of a beneficiary designation
- Simplify your planning
- Establish a meaningful legacy gift in minutes
- Continue to use your account as long as you need
- Qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction and potentially reduce the tax burden on your family
How to make a beneficiary designation
To leave assets to CJP, you will need to complete a beneficiary designation form provided by your account custodian and inform CJP of your plans. You can use the "Make a future gift of retirement assets" tool on this page to contact your retirement plan custodian and designate a future gift to CJP.
Why name CJP as a beneficiary of retirement assets
Did you know that retirement assets left to heirs are subject to gift and estate tax in addition to income tax? This tax burden makes retirement assets less desirable for heirs and well-suited for charitable purposes. Consider leaving your heirs assets that receive a step up in basis, such as real estate and stock, and giving the retirement assets to charity. CJP benefits from the full value of gifts of retirement assets because, as a charity, we are not taxed upon receiving retirement plan assets. Your estate will qualify for an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift.
